North West AHP Network conference: Making AHP apprenticeships happen across the North West
Wednesday 22 January 2020, 09:30am - 04:00pm
This event aims to accelerate the uptake of apprenticeships at all levels across the 14 allied health professions workforce in order to support workforce supply, skill mix and up-skilling.

Given the breadth of 14 allied health professions* and number of apprenticeships involved this is a complex area for many providers, and stakeholders across the region are asking for support and information.

This event therefore aims to:
  1. ensure health and care providers in the region are familiar with current context and progress in relation to apprenticeships for the allied health professions workforce at all levels.
  2. provide an update on national procurement developments for pre-registration AHP apprenticeships and implications for regional workforce priorities.
  3. support partnership working across the region in designing and delivering apprenticeship programmes, particularly on the job learning, and continue to identify regional challenges and solutions.
  4. promote how apprenticeship can support an effective 'grow your own' approach to AHP workforce supply and development.
  5. support the development of local AHP apprenticeship strategies in the region.

The anticipated outcomes are that:

  1. There will be better understanding across the region of apprenticeship standards available to support AHP workforce supply, particularly where there are known shortages.
  2. Stakeholders across the region will be able to engage more effectively in national procurement of apprenticeships.
  3. There will be a greater focus on how apprenticeships can support effective deployment and development of the non-registered workforce.
  4. NHS and other providers will start to work together to develop and deliver local programmes.
  5. Ultimately that there will be faster, greater uptake of apprenticeships within the region to address known shortfalls in workforce supply as well as identified upskilling and development needs.

A full agenda and list of speakers will be available by the end of November.
