Emma Chell, Student Dietitian, University of Chester

I have always been really interested in working in healthcare and loved the idea of using nutrition to help people achieve optimal health.

I am currently in my final placement before graduating. I'm currently learning and applying how to conduct consultations independently, complete appropriate administration tasks and liaise with service users to create an achievable care plan, which may involve food fortification, tube feeding or oral nutrition supplements.

I started my training at the University of Chester 3 years ago and have been on a placement in Salford last year and I'm currently on placement in Liverpool at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. I even already have a job lined up ready for after I graduate!

Dietitians are like-minded, caring people and we love to welcome students with open arms! As the roles of dietitians in healthcare become more recognised, we need more of us to take on all the jobs opening up throughout the career!

Matthew Bullough, Student Dietitian, University of Chester

I have been interested in nutrition for a long time and love learning about the science that underpins it. It’s also a career that focusses on helping people, which makes it really worthwhile.

I am currently changing career from a completely different industry. I used to work in aircraft manufacture, but really wanted to pursue dietetics, so thought I would make the change while I still could!

I'm currently on a community placement with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. This allows me to experience lots of areas of dietetic practice, ranging from diabetes to tube-fed patients and could be in a clinic or the patient’s own home.

When you see a patient that really appreciates your help, there really is nothing like it.
